Tu B’Shvat: Also called the New Year for trees, on this arbor day, it is customary to eat fruit from trees that grow in Israel, plant trees or provide money for the planting of trees in Israel.
Purim: The holiday of Purim involves a plot by the wicked Haman against the Jews and his eventual defeat and demise through the efforts of Mordechai and Queen Esther.
Passover/Pesach: Passover recalls the deliverance of Jews from Egyptian slavery. Jews around the world celebrate their freedom at the Seder table as the story of the exodus from Egypt is told.
Yom Hashoah: Holocaust Memorial Day. A day to remember the victims of the Holocaust.
Yom Hazikaron: The day on which Israel honors its war veterans. It is intended to remind people of the price paid for independence and of what was achieved with the soldiers’ sacrifice.
Yom Ha’Atzamaut: Israeli Independence Day celebrates the founding of the State of Israel.
Shavuot: Shavuot means “weeks,’ signifying seven weeks after Passover. It celebrates the moment when Moses received the Torah and the 10 commandments on Mount Sinai.
